Central Namibia – The glossy Starling

Travel through Central Namibia in 12 days! Experience the changing colours of the Sossusvlei dunes as the sun goes by, the Namib Desert with its endless landscape and the unique wildlife of the Etosha National Park.

Day 1: Airport – Windhoek

Arrive in Windhoek. Spend the day at leisure by visiting the historical features like the ‘Christuskirche’ the most prominent church in Windhoek and the parliamentary building or go shopping in the lively city centre of Windhoek.

Day 2: Windhoek – Namib Region (B)

The Dunes

The journey leads you to the fascinating dunes in the Sossusvlei area. Drive via the Spreetshoogte Pass to Solitaire. Enjoy the stunning scenery along the way. Continue to the lodge nearby.

Day 3: Sossusvlei – Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge (B)

Explore the Sossusvlei in the early morning, surrounded by the world’s highest dunes. Experience the colour change of the dunes as the bountiful sunshine passes over them. Continue along endless landscape towards the north to reach your next destination in the Namib Desert, the Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge. Enjoy the beauty of the surrounding.

Day 4: Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge - Swakopmund (B)

Barchan Dune Retreat

The route leads you to the coast of Namibia. Drive through the barren Namib Desert with its unique eco-system. You can visit the ancient Welwitschia plants and the moon landscape.

Day 5: Swakopmund (B)

Enjoy the day by either having a stroll through the historic town with its colonial buildings and the shopping malls. You may visit the Crystal Gallery exhibiting many of Namibia’s precious stones and crystals, the Swakopmund museum or the aquarium. What about going on a boat cruise on the Walvis Bay lagoon just 35 km south of Swakopmund to explore the marine life and having fresh oysters with sparkling wine? You can book scenic flights to see the Sossusvlei or the Skeleton Coast from a bird’s eyes view.

Day 6: Swakopmund - Twyfelfontein (B)

Swakopmund

Leave Swakopmund and drive to the Damaraland via the fishers’ town Henties Bay and Uis to Twyfelfontein. Use the opportunity to visit one of Africa’s biggest seal colonies at Cape Cross north of Henties Bay. You will pass the Brandberg en route, which is the highest mountain in Namibia.

Day 7: Twyfelfontein – Etosha Nationalpark (B/D)

Explore the vicinity of Twyfelfontein with its rock engravings and paintings, the Organ pipes and the Burt Mountain. You continue your journey via Khorixas and Outjo in the vicinity of the Etosha National Park.

Day 8: Etosha National Park (B/D)

Vingerklip Lodge

You may want to go on a game drive into the Etosha National Park.

Day 9/10: Etosha National Park (B)

Enjoy some more game-viewing after entering the southern entry point into the park. You will spend the entire day in the park.

Day 11: Etosha National Park – Frans Indongo Lodge (B)

Etosha National Park

The journey leads you to the Frans Indongo Lodge just north of Otjiwarongo. Leave the Onguma Bush Camp and drive via Tsumeb, a mining town, and Otavi into the direction of Otjiwarongo. Take part on an optional game drive at the Frans Indongo Lodge which gives you a good introduction to the area you are visiting.

Day 12: Frans Indongo Lodge - Windhoek – Airport (B)

Drive back to the capital city of Namibia, Windhoek, via Otjiwarongo and Okahandja. Visit a woodcarvers market in Okahandja.
Depart Windhoek for the International Airport for your flight home.
