Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET)
enhancing education
The goal of the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET) is to protect the natural environment of Namibia by educating its citizens to practice a sustainable lifestyle.
Registered in Namibia as a non-profit trust, NaDEET is a vibrant environmental education organisation. At the core of NaDEET’s programmes is our environmental education centre located on the NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia’s southern Hardap Region. Children and adult participants learn first-hand about sustainable living, biodiversity and the balance between humans and the environment. They learn not just by seeing and hearing, but by doing and living. At NaDEET Centre theory meets practice so that empowered participants gain the tools to take action in their homes and communities. Our environmental literacy and outreach programmes complement the Centre’s activities and expand its reach nationwide. Since 2014, NaDEET has a small head office in Swakopmund.
The almost 100% carbon free NaDEET Centre has hosted over 10 000 children and adults with a very high rate of return of our partner schools.
NaDEET’s director and co-founder, Viktoria Keding, is an environmental educator and conservationist at heart. Through her environmental teaching experiences, she understands the dire need to provide holistic education about our basic environmental problems. It is her drive to ‘practice what we teach’ that guides NaDEET’s sustainable living programmes.
